Companion Resources

In addition to reflection/discussion questions and activity ideas being included at the end of my books, I have also created companion resources to accompany your read-alouds.

My Peaceful Place

Color-Your-Own Peaceful Place Bookmarks

    • Download and print this color-your-own bookmark as a follow-up mindfulness art activity! This double-sided 2″x6″ bookmark includes:
      • one side with a reminder to take a deep breath,
      • and another side for children to draw their peaceful place that they can travel to in their mind when they are experiencing uncomfortable emotions, or to draw images/colors that can bring them peace.

Activity Book

    • As a supplemental activity book for your read-aloud of My Peaceful Place, this is a great way to introduce and talk about mindfulness, emotional awareness, and coping with young children, and the completed activity book can become a great tool to refer back to whenever children are experiencing uncomfortable emotions. This resource is perfect for parents/caregivers, educators, and mental health professionals who work with elementary school-aged children. Activities incorporate art and visuals, and can be easily adapted or accommodated for children who have difficulties with reading or writing skills.

Social and Emotional Learning (SEL) Lesson

    • Lead an SEL lesson focused on mindfulness and coping through using this Google Slides presentation and reading aloud the children’s book My Peaceful Place. This Google Slides SEL lesson includes:
      • a combination of text, visuals, and linked online videos,
      • suggested things to say/questions to ask within the notes section of each slide,
      • interactive discussion questions,
      • and an application activity.

Mindful StoryWalk

    • I’ve developed two interactive Mindful StoryWalk templates for My Peaceful Place–one for community spaces and one for schoolyards–certain schoolyard prompts geared towards the possibility that children may use the Mindful StoryWalk on their own during recess time.
    • Contact me if you’d like me to send you my free 18″x24″ printable Mindful StoryWalk template individualized to you! This might include adding any logos, partners/sponsors, and a desired social media hashtag for people who’d like to post and share photos of their walk. You’d additionally need two copies of the book to allow for all pages to be included in your StoryWalk. You can find tips and ideas here for creating and maintaining your StoryWalk.
